Hi Everyone! I hope you all are doing well and ready to move on to Week 4. This week we will work with three TCO's, relating to deontology in a variety of ethical dilemma scenarios – that is, the claim of duty as a single way to resolve all ethical issues. That is the question – can it do it? We will be working with several key concepts throughout our study for the week: Develop concepts of leadership based on deontological ethics and Kant's categorical imperative. Using deontological ethics, determine what principles are universal in social relationships. Determine and analyze objections to Kant's deontological ethics.
This week you have some great discussion topics, and I'm looking forward to reading your comments. In addition, you have a web research assignment relating to deontological concepts where you will find an ethical dilemma from the past five years online. Then, using this story as a foundation for your dilemma you will:
Create a 2-4 paragraph "dilemma" similar to the other dilemmas you have been solving throughout this term. Solve the dilemma using Kant's ethics (Categorical Imperative). Solve the dilemma using any other method we have discussed to date (with which you agree.) State which resolution (Kant's or the other one you chose) you prefer and why.
This assignment should be worked on with a partner of your choice from the class, but you will turn in your own written work for grading, and will note on it both your name and your partner's. The presentation may be done with your partner (to help divide up the work), or by you individually. Please let me know who you have partnered with by Tuesday. If you are unable to find a partner and let me know by Tuesday, I will assign a partner for you.
